We know everyone is reeling in the wake of COVID-19. As fallout from this pandemic ripples across our community, we’re seeing firsthand the devastating impact it’s having on families at the margins. More than 400 survivors in our programs rely on Raphael House for shelter, food, hygiene supplies, safety planning, and emergency resources—in addition to a high volume of callers on our 24-hotline.
Portland Street Medicine is a volunteer-driven initiative and will continue to be so. As we ramp up our street outreach in response to COVID-19, it makes the most sense for us to use our volunteer clinicians for the provision of care.
Philanthropic support can increase our capacity to diagnose, treat and prevent COVID-19 and prepare for future infectious disease outbreaks. We have created a new fund for donations to support the most urgent needs related to OHSU’s COVID-19 preparedness and response. Portland COVID-19 Mutual Aid needs the following items: bottled water, face masks, hand sanitizer, sanitizing wipes, tissues, hand soap, nitrile gloves, Ziploc bags, clean sharps, paper towels, single-serving Tylenol, hand warmers, combs, brushes, single-serving snacks, sleeping bags, tents, tarps, blankets, socks, underwear, personal/baby wipes, alcohol wipes, pet food.
The pantry is stocked through generous donations from individuals and business as well as through our partnership with the Mississippi Food Network. Over a hundred thousand cans of food are donated each year. Occasionally items such as sugar, canned fruit, cereal, and peanut butter, which are in constant demand, must occasionally be purchased by Stewpot.
